A Shooting in a Lafayette Theater

There’s been another random murder-spree shooter in America again. A monster named John Russel Houser entered a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana and murdered a 21 year old woman named  Mayci Breaux and a 33 year old woman named Jillian Johnson, and wounded several others, before killing himself. He initially tried to escape, but when the police response was so prompt he committed suicide rather than be captured.

I don’t know about you, but I am just weary from over-horror. It seems like it is a good week in America when we get by without a mass killing of innocent people by a monster with a gun.

The fatalities were not as numerous as they were in Aurora or Sandy Hook, which is something to be thankful for but does not ameliorate the grief of the loved ones who lost Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson. There are two reasons why more people weren’t killed. First, Houser used a handgun to commit his crimes, which limited the number of times he could shoot before reloading. In the Aurora Massacre, one of the weapons used by the perpetrator, James Egan Holmes, was a Smith & Wesson M&P15 semi-automatic rifle, which allowed him to get off 65 shots before it jammed. Secondly, a (so far unnamed) teacher managed to pull the fire alarm, despite being shot in the leg, and helped start the exodus from the theater and to alert the authorities.

Like the shootings Aurora and Sandy Hook, this looks like it was a madman with a gun as opposed to a lone wolf terrorist. A far as they know, John Russel Houser had no socio-political motivation for murdering random strangers in a public place. The vile semi-human just wanted to kill.

I’m already dreading hearing about the next shooting.
